Why Transcultural Therapy?
Because your cultural background is part for your story.
Therapy often focuses on your thoughts, feelings and relationships. But who we are is also shaped by the cultures we grow up in, the people around us and the places we call home. As a Transcultural Systemic Psychologist I take into account your cultural background (norms, values and migration experiences) and social environment (the family, extended family, or community).
For people living between cultures, this can be an important part of understanding what you're going through.
It doesn't mean putting you in a cultural box. On the contrary, it means making space for the complexity and layers of who you are. Including the parts that don't fit neatly into one culture or identity.
Sometimes, understanding where you come from can help you understand where you want to go.
